People around the world are being profiled because the amount of money they have when being pulled over, which leads police officers to thinking its for drugs. Also they are being profiled because of their race or religion. Some police now a days allegedly pull over drivers because of their race or ethnicity, rather than the law or violations they have done. People of color often been through intolerance at every stage of the criminal system. They are most likely to be pulled over, searched, arrested, and convicted. This is mainly the case of drug law violations. Racial profiling is ineffective, it isolates communities from law enforcement, and limits community policing efforts. African americans are most likely to be killed by law enforcement than any other race, because they are stereotyped to be more violent and addicted to drugs. Racial profiling has been a big national problem for a while now, it happens every day in cities and towns across the country. Incarceration is another serious impact on United States society. Incarceration is an act of being confined in prison or imprisoning someone. Its become a big impact in U.S society because incarceration rates have increased. The U.S leads the world in incarceration with 2.2 million people currently in the nations jails and prisons. This results in a 500% increase over the last forty years. The cause of this big increase is not the change in crime rates, but in the changes in sentencing laws and policy. This caused a lot of stricter sentencing policies, however over the past decades when the incarceration rates got higher crime rates didnt. Sentencing policies also resulted in a dramatic growth in incarceration for drug offenses. Mandatory minimums is a harsh sentencing law that keeps many people that are convicted of drug offenses in prison for a longer time. Back in 1986 people that got released after serving time for a federal drug offense spent about 22 months in prison, but by 20 04 people that were convicted on federal drug offenses are expected to serve triple times the length they had severed back in 1986. Which adds up to 62 months in prison. On the union level, people who are incarcerated on a drug conviction have made up just under half the prison population. Policy makers should really reconsider drug crime policies, because of the apparent low effectiveness of a heightened enforcement strategy that caused a ten times increase in the incarceration rate for drug offenses. Researchers show that those who are incarcerated in the U.S are mainly the most disadvantaged segments of the population. They are also mainly under the age of 40, poorly educated meaning not as smart, and often have drug and alcohol addiction, mental and physical illness, and lack of work experience. Also, more than half of the prison population is black or Hispanic, African Americans were incarcerated at 6 times and Hispanics at 3 times the rate for non Mexican whites. The appearance of high incarceration rates has a wide significance for United States society. The consequences of this new reality cant be divided from the problems of social inequalit y and the quality of citizenship of the nations race related and ethnic minorities. Drug overuse is another big impact on our society. As of November 8, 2016 California voters passed proposition 64. Proposition 64 is short for The Control, Regulate and Tax Adult Use of Marijuana Act (AUMA). California along with several states including Washington, Oregon, and Colorado have personal possession and the use of marijuana is decriminalized. Marijuana is the most commonly abused illegal drug in the United States and also around the world. People who support it and voted for it to be legalized, for medical or for general use, fail to see the greater costs of marijuana are not related to its being banned, but the costs resulting from marijuana use itself. Marijuana should also not be legalized in other states because people can become addicted to it. People think being addicted to marijuana is a myth, but its very true. Studies show about 10% of those who use Cannabis become addicted, this number is higher among teenagers. For some people who try and stop taking this drug, a withdrawal syndrome has been described. This Syndrome consists of anxiety, restlessness, insomnia, depression, and changes in appetite. Legalizing marijuana has affected drug cartels as more and more states begin to legalize the adult use of marijuana, for recreational purposes. States have experienced a big upward shift in income from taxing legal activities that have to do with marijuana sales, and are cutting costs so they dont have to apply hemp related laws. However, effects of legalizing marijuana go way far from state government income. Places with dispensaries fear that there will be a lot more marijuana use. Some of the residents complain about the odor. The community worry that neighborhoods impacted by drugs and the war on drugs are not being asked to shoulder the burden and risk having dispensaries on their streets. The material from these events rides out from the Sun on the solar wind, which is a constant stream of energetic particles called electrons and protons. When those charged particles get to Earth, some interesting things can happen.   First, they encounter Earths magnetic field, which protects the surface and lower atmosphere from the solar wind by deflecting the energetic particles around the planet. Those particles DO interact with the topmost layers of the atmosphere, often creating northern and southern lights. If the solar storm is strong enough, our technology can be affected — telecommunications, GPS satellites, and electrical grids — can be disrupted or even shut down.   What About the Lightning? When these charged particles   have enough energy to penetrate down into the cloud-forming regions of the Earths atmosphere, they can affect our weather.  Scientists found evidence that some lightning strikes on Earth may well be triggered by energetic particles from the Sun that reach our planet via the solar wind. They measured significant increases in lightning rates across Europe (for example) that occurred for up to 40 days after the arrival of particles carried by high-speed solar winds.   Nobodys quite sure how this works, but scientists are working to understand the interactions. Their data show that electrical properties of the air are somehow changed as the incoming charged particles collide with the atmosphere. Can Solar Activity Help Weather Prediction? The record lightning strikes over Europe was compared with data from NASAs Advanced Composition Explorer (ACE) spacecraft, which lies between the Sun and the Earth and measures the characteristics of solar winds. It is one of NASAs workhorse space weather and solar activity observatories. After the arrival of the  solar wind at the Earth, the researchers showed there was an average of 422 lightning strikes across the UK in the following 40 days, compared to an average of 321 lightning strikes in the 40 days before the solar winds arrival. They noted that the rate of lightning strikes peaked between 12 and 18 days after the arrival of the solar wind. This Lottery is a short story written by Shirley Jackson. It was first published in the New Yorker on June 26th 1948. The story takes place on June 27th in a small American village with a population of around 300 people. June 27th is the annual celebration of the lottery, which, in the story, takes places on the same day in nearly every city, town and village. Every person in the village has to take place in the lottery. Due to the small size of the population, the takes place in less than two hours. The townspeople gather in the town square where Mr. Summers, the lottery official, and each head of household draws a slip of paper from an old black box. One of the characters, Tessie Hutchinson, arrives at the event at the last minute,†¦show more content†¦The first paragraphs paint a picture of an idyllic rural area where everything seems perfect and serene. However this couldn’t be further away from the truth and as the story progresses it becomes clear that, beneath the flowers and sunshine, the village hides a dark secret. The opening of the story serves to increase the impact the gruesome ending has on the reader. Irony is also present as the story reaches its ending, specifically when Davy Hutchinson is spared the execution on this day, and the crowd is relieved. It is clear that the townspeople believe that the murder of a mother is preferable to the murder of a young boy, even though the act in itself is completely unnecessary. Within moments of being spared his life Davy Hutchinson is handed pebbles. He is expected to take part in the murder of his mother and be involved in the same horrific ritual that he just escaped. The older children are happy when they find out they didnt ‘win’ the lottery, even though they know that their mother is about to die. Foreshadowing plays a large part in the story and serves to build suspense as the outcome of the lottery is slowly revealed. It gradually becomes clear that this is not an ordinary lottery and the author uses several situations to express this. As the men gather, they do not approach the pile of stones that the boys in the village have been gathering. However, there are a couple different view points regarding how to appropriately carry out punishment. Philosopher Immanuel Kant asserts that Retribution is the model for punishment. Kant argues that punishment should be governed by two principles: 1. people should be punished solely for the reason that they have committed a crime and 2. punishment is to be in proportion to the severity of the crime (Rachels 142). For example, a small punishment is suitable for a small crime and a more serious punishment is suitable for a more serious crime. Furthermore, Retribution means that a person committing a crime will be held responsible for their actions. Kant’s moral theory states humans, having the capacity to reason and make choices for themselves, need to be held accountable. If we don’t, then we are treating them as if they were not rational, reasonable agents. Furthermore, justification of punishment comes from the nature of the crime and does not consider if the consequences are good or bad, just that the person pays the penalty for having committed the crime. This view point is vastly different that the Utilitarian model of punishment (Bzdak PP). The Utilitarian view point always considers the consequences of punishment. The foundation of Utilitarianism is that happiness is the ultimate goal and we need to do whatever we can to maximize this. Punishment is wrong (immoral) because it is, inherently, an unhappy circumstance. However, punishment is moral if the good outweighs the bad. Punishment should lead to good consequences; it should help the person being punished so both society and the criminal benefit. The principle of rehabilitation is at play here and the goal is to do whatever is needed to make the criminal a productive member of society. The view of Retribution not only differs with Utilitarianism on the view of consequences but also human integrity or dignity. The Utilitarian justification of rehabilitation is not in line with Retribution. Retributivists would say that it is disrespectful to humans to treat them as though they were not rational beings and because of this, need to be rehabilitated. As stated before, there are only two principles governing punishment – having done the crime and receiving an appropriate punishment – disregarding other reasons like consequences. In my opinion, I think that retribution is more appealing than the utilitarian view. The biggest factor that sways me to retribution is the concern of those who don’t commit crimes. Retribution is only concerned with those who commit crimes be held accountable. Collectively the dimensions state the cultural impact on the society base on different cultures, relationship among behaviour and values in association with analysis of various factors. To be more specific, this theory takes into account significant approaches of culture and delivers them the rating based on the comparison scale (Hofstede 2017). Leadership styles The style of leadership can be explained from various aspects and can be stated in different ways. Collectivism vs. Individualism It is the measurement of strength of ties of the people with others in the community. A community with high level of collectivism score will have strong group consistency and therefore, will exhibit the high level of respect and loyalty among the members whereas under individualism the ties among the individuals are loose and everyone is expected to take care of her or him or the immediate family (Gholipour and Tajaddini 2014). Cambodia falls under high collectivism society and therefore the group welfare is valued higher as compared to the individuals. On the other hand, Turkey falls under highly individualism society and the people are generally concerned about themselves, their families and immediate families. Feminity vs. Masculinity It measures the level at which the culture values the traditional female and male roles. Under the traditional male roles the virtues are competitive and assertive and the traditional female role virtues are caring and modesty. A culture that has high score for masculinity creates a gap among the mens and womens values and a culture with low masculinity values the women (Hofstede 2014). Cambodia falls under the predominant feminine culture and they place high value on the people, nurturing and life quality. Meeting the basic requirements are sufficient to fulfil their needs. Long-term orientation Long-term orientation is concerned about the future, short-term social or material success and short-term gratification. It states the scenario with regard to the adaptability, perseverance and persistent. It is defined as the way of communication that includes voice tone, body gestures, physical distance among the communicators, weather, time of the day, societal norms, place of the communication, situation and external factors (Degens et al. 2017). Two type of approaches are there low context and high context. High context mainly assign the importance to the surrounding of a message and the secondary importance to message itself. Under the high-context communication more time is required to take any decision and perform the transactions as compared to the low context cultures. On the contrary, low context cultures allocate the primary meaning of objective communication message and then the secondary meaning to context. Under the low-context communication it emphasizes accuracy, sp eed and efficiency. The low-context communications are logical, action oriented, linear and big part of the data is formalized and explicit and the communications are supposed to be proceeded in explicit, verbal and rational way. Under the Hofstedes concept the high value is placed on the time of the people and their requirement of their freedom and privacy and it acknowledges the individual accomplishments. Further, the education and thrift are considered as positive values whereas the people who are willing for compromising will have lower valuation. The value system of Cambodia is based upon its collectivist nature (Kim 2017). It values the independence and self-sufficiency, self interest of the group over the individual interest. However, in Turkey as the people are of individualism nature, it does not value the group enjoyment and values the concentration on self or maximum to the dear and near ones and are concerned about fulfilment of their own goals, needs and interests. Conclusion As per the above discussion it is concluded that as far as the international business is under consideration, the cultural dimensions plays an important role. The manner, in which the different cultures are viewed, can assist the manager to sail and understand the various concepts of international business. With regard to the cultural dimensions, Cambodias business market significantly varies with that of Turkey. The people from Cambodia have high level of power distance as compared to the Europeans, whereas the people from Turkey have low level of power distance. Further, the Cambodian people have collectivist and feminist culture. They prefer to take the decisions collectively and concerned about the team members benefits. Further, they value their women as like the men. On the other hand, turkey has individualism and masculinity culture. They are concerned about themselves or their near and dear ones. An organisation, which is providing safety and security to country and each citizen of the country, must be independent with their work and services so there is need of change so that the organisation and the police and other authority can work free but it is also important that the police of the city must not take wrong decisions. However, government must look over the work but in a positive term and should not try to control. This change is required to provide better and equal service to all the individual of the country. With this change there is a big impact over the services of our London police as with no political pressure the organisation is now able to work more freely and so the citizens are getting better services but yes, of course there is an authority which has been selected by the government which look over the organisation so that the organisation must not get the absolute power but with the initiative of this changes for the organisation politically now there is great opportunities and so the system of London police is now more stable than the previous and so the police of the city can perform their duties more efficiently. There is an essential requirement to bring changes in method of the working and should think of the requirements and expectations of the citizen what they keep with us. It is very important to bring vital changes as the society is changing rapidly and becoming more advance. Hence, it has the expectations of more better and quick services from us and if the organisation and we the member and the authority of the city police will fail to do so then the trust of the citizen from the organisation and its services will be withdrawn. Society makes or breaks any organisation or political parties and thus it is important to work according to the needs and desires of the society. The impact of changes in social factor has made the organisation more efficient as now citizens are more satisfied and happy with the work and process of operating all the problems and complaints of people. At the same time, method of providing service has been changed and is now engaged in creating good impression on the public. So, with the impact of the changes it is possible to handle the over populated area as well as the emerging issues (Law.jrank.org, 2015). Technological changes- With the rapid change in society and technology even our organisation need to change its technological stuffs and tools. With advance technology, telecommunication has become easier. It will help to provide correct information and quick distribution to every police on one time and are also easy so it is important to have a better technological use for rapid and advance work. In our organisation, we are still using the old process and technology which required changes for better performance of the organisation as well as for the better performance of the police in providing services to the citizens. With better and advance technology it will be quicker to solve the issues as well to provide the services more on time and fast.(Anon, 2015) The changes are important and can bring more positive outcome to the organisation but it is important for the organisation to adapt the advance process which can make their work easier. There is always scope of new approaches and our organisation need to accept those views in positive aspects and should improve the efficiency of the police by giving advance technology and train them so that they can use it appropriately. With the information technology it has become possible to take account and address all complaints on time and to keep records for all the services and also keeping records of the citizen. The impact of the changes in technology in our organisation helps the London city police to improve their service in better way and reduce the chances of mistakes and also help them to reduce any kind of crime. With advance technology the citizens fell safe and secured and are able to enjoy better service they needed in time. Furthermore, work pressures are now manageable by using new techniques and gadgets. Similarly, in our organisation the powers are distributed to the different departments and the authority control the overall system by having complete power just like a web. Task culture: This culture helps to solve the issues by forming different teams. In our organisation, this culture is very useful as with different small teams the specific problems get solved by skilled and trained police.(Holdaway, 2013) Person culture: To control the view of being the supreme than the organisation, this culture has been formed. This help London city police to maintain a positive relation and providing safety to all. By referring to Charles Handy, it has been found out that it is the relevant example for this analysis as the organisation is following this theory to deal with the organisational problems and to make better outcomes from the several changes. The types of culture are the relevant examples for the public sector organisation as the organisation is referring with this theory. Maslows theory of motivation is relevant with this analysis and as the theory illustrate the need of the individual which is important to motivate everyone for those work are: Self-actualization, esteem, belongings, safety, physiological, these are the basic requirements an individual can ask and can get motivated from for better work. According to the organisations situation, these needs are relevant to the analysis as in the organisation the police of the city need self-actualization which consists of training and advancement of police. It is also important to provide self-esteem through which they can recognize their responsibilities, belongings where they learn to work in team for the organisation, safety where every member of the organisation asks for job security and work safety in the workplace, physiological through which they expects their salary which must satisfy their need as well as appreciation for their brave work and unconditional effort for the society. Every individual needs these basic requirements to be fulfilled and if they will get these needs to be satisfied in the workplace they will be motivate and will perform better and will be loyal to the organisation. Structural change is also fundamental point to create innovative forms of effective management. The ending of the entire changes has been recognized in the constructive aspects as the evidences are the enlargement of the security peace in city. By referring to Charles Handy and associating this condition, it has been found out that it is the relevant example for this examination as the establishment. Then the organisational cultural also demonstrated that different types of culture are the relevant examples for the public sector organisation. Recommendation It has been recommended to the London city police that if they follow the upgrade technology and according to the different theory those were relevant to the analysis if the organisation get success to motivate their staff and members of the organisation then the organisation can be able to achieve its goals. It is important to motivate the police as well, the first recommendation which the organisation has to follow and secondly it is important for the organisation to change the structure.(Anon, 2015) The reason why these changes and improvements are required is that by motivating them the service and protection of the country can be improve that means better quality of services in the organisation and hard-working police increased.
